Importance of Celebrating Pride 🏳️🌈
The LGBTQ: Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer+ community has endured numerous hardships to be recognized at the federal, state and local levels. They have strived to create safe spaces; advocate for policies, laws, and legislation that protect them; form numerous forms of violence and discrimination, and continue to fight such injustices today.
Pride is the word used to celebrate and acknowledge the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals. The United States celebrates Pride in the month of June to remember, acknowledge, and recognize that in 1969 at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar, in the Village of Greenwich, New York, LGBTQ+ individuals fought against police brutality, harassment, hate crimes, and demanded fair and equal treatment. The Stonewall Uprising became a catalyst and ignited the start of the LGBTQ+ movement. Even though we have a month that brings to light the achievements and challenges of folks within the LGBTQ+ community, we should continue to acknowledge, recognize and create safe spaces for folks to feel heard, acknowledged and valued within our communities and at the federal, state and local levels.
CSUMB library recognizes, understands and celebrates the lives and experiences of folks within the LGBTQ+ community.
This guide is designed to celebrate how far we have come within the United States, to recognize the LGBTQ+ community at the federal, state and local levels. As a nation we strive to continue to pass laws and policies that are inclusive of all people, and understand that a lot of work still needs to be done before we have a society that is equal and fair to all. Furthermore, this guide provides a list of resources and exhibits that give a glimpse into their struggles and victories that LGBTQ+ individuals have had within Monterey County, CSUMB, and at the federal, state and local levels.

Importancia de Celebrar LGBTQ+ 🏳️🌈
La comunidad LGBTQ: Lesbiana Gay Bisexual Transgénero Queer+ ha soportado numerosas dificultades para ser reconocida a nivel federal, estatal y local. Se han esforzado por crear espacios seguros; abogado por políticas, leyes y legislación que los protejan; de varias formas de violencia y discriminación, y siguen luchando hoy contra tales injusticias.
Orgullo es la palabra que se usa para celebrar y reconocer la vida de las personas LGBTQ+. Estados Unidos celebra el Orgullo en el mes de Junio para recordar y reconocer que en 1969 en el Stonewall Inn, un bar gay, en el Aldea de Greenwich, Nueva York, las personas LGBTQ+ lucharon contra la brutalidad policial, el acoso, los crímenes de odio, y exigieron trato justo y equitativo. El levantamiento de Stonewall se convirtió en un catalizador y encendió el comienzo del movimiento LGBTQ+. Aunque tenemos un mes que saca a la luz los logros y desafíos de las personas dentro de la comunidad LGBTQ+, debemos continuar reconociendo y creando espacios seguros para que las personas se sientan escuchadas, reconocidas y valoradas dentro de nuestras comunidades y a nivel federal, estatal y locales.
La biblioteca de CSUMB reconoce, comprende y celebra las vidas y experiencias de las personas dentro de la comunidad LGBTQ+.
Esta guía está diseñada para celebrar lo lejos que hemos llegado dentro de los Estados Unidos, para reconocer a la comunidad LGBTQ+ a nivel federal, estatal y local. Como nación, nos esforzamos por continuar aprobando leyes y políticas que sean inclusivas para todas las personas, y comprendemos que aún queda mucho trabajo por hacer antes de que tengamos una sociedad que sea igualitaria y justa para todas las personas. Además, esta guía proporciona una lista de recursos y exhibiciones que dan una idea de las luchas y victorias que las personas LGBTQ+ han tenido dentro del condado de Monterey, CSUMB y a nivel federal, estatal y local.
